‘Summertime’ is a surprisingly good film that takes a rather distinctive approach towards lesbian relationships and sex. Unlike most other French drama love affairs like ‘Blue is the Warmest Color,’ the actors present a very fierce and passionate eroticism without showing any clear hints of seduction from both sides. The realism that builds up to these scenes comes from the film’s ability to create a total anti-dramatic environment and relaxed storytelling. The characters remain a mystery to you all the way till the end of the movie, and so will their bond. But you connect to their bond and the passionate intentions that draw them to each other.
